Anyone on here a paid up member of a political party? I’m considering taking an active role in politics, and am interested to see what the experience of others is.

You can’t sort your kids out, but you want a hand in running a country?

Seems to be par for the course. Maybe if I leave them in a pub I’ll end up running the joint.

I joined the green party, but they signed me up as a “young green” i was 23 and a full tax payer, was a little offended that i wasn’t considered an adult by them so i left. I also joined the socialist workers, but they were a bunch of unwashed dreamers. I did opt out of my unison membership contributing to the labour party though!

On a slightly more serious note, I’d be wary about the whole nationalism thing. I know it’s in Scotland, I know it’s a different situation to England, but the potential for a gentle slide into racism of a less than tartan hue should be watched for.

Perhaps I’m being a bit gloomy, but half an hour in my local pub with a couple of local folk has revealed a very local approach to people who might be considered not quite local.

I joined a political party about 10 years ago, then successfully fought four borough/parish elections. It was difficult to take that very first step, as I believed I was “above all that” political silliness.

But basically, it’s a matter of who you want making decisions affecting your life – yourself, or the other idiots.

Go for it, Glupton – and good luck (whichever party you support) 🙂

Hope you don’t mean this one. the national party

That would be a shame, and probably rather pointless

For the record been a member of a party and stood as a councillor. Thankfully not elected 🙂

Party brandh meetings are like STW threads with fewer gifs and more structure. If you like bickering about minutes, you’ll love local politics.
