Anyone had any experience of trying to make a claim for a bike with John Lewis house insurance? I have been with M&S for years who have paid when claimed but their renewal quote is huge compared to John Lewis for a new customer… Both would have the bike specifically listed on the schedule.

    Thanks 🙂

Also interested in this due to big M&S price hike.

Who underwrites JL, do you know?

Yep, it’s RSA. Thought there was a £3k limit on each bike, may or may not be an issue.

They do a specialist policy with the bikes listed, no problems with limits. I haven’t had to make a claim though

Bike insurance specific websites seem ridiculous (yes it’s a valuable bike but even so!)…

    Cycleguard quote – £421/year
Evans Cycles bike insurance – £538/year
    Insure4Sport – £368/year

Pedalcover use Axa and may refuse cover if you’ve had a big claim in the last five years.

Shame as they seemed very helpful.

With regards to John Lewis we have cover from the but not yet made a claim.

I recommend you speak to them on the phone first with regards to their bike cover. The standard policy might not give you what you require. They have specific limits and definitions relating to garages and outbuildings.

We used their bespoke option in the end to get the required cover.

JL also just declined my business on the basis on my previous claim.

    Interesting as considering using them.

I’m with JL and spoke to them on the phone before committing. £5k max per bike, but covered in the garage without any bike locks required, and covered away from home so long as they are locked to an immovable object. I checked and they said no specific standard of lock was required to be covered away from home.

Anything over £5k they put you to their ‘specialist’ insurance dept apparently. Thats good on the lock situation. I always take a photo if leaving my bike locked to anything too.

Almost word for word what the AA told me too.

Well, John Lewis have impressed – having to use their Specialist Insurance due to value but the customer service has been spot on, the policy seems excellent, covers anywhere in the world and no stupid small print re ‘locks must be this, that & the other’. It all depends on how much you want to pay to protect your pride and joy I guess, you can get house insurance much cheaper but perhaps with not the peace of mind they will ever pay out if needed – it’s a basic form of gambling! 🙂

Yes I’ve gone with the specialist from John Lewis too.

You guys didn’t have big previous claims then?

I’m finding it hard to get a quote for a new policy from anyone.

Might have to bend over and take the M&S price hike.

I can recommend cooperative, standard cycle limit is £1000 but reasonable charges for named bike over that. Customer service is faultless for claims. They have a new for old policy too.
