I have some friends who were among the paratroopers on task. By all accounts, it was very real and a very close thing. They dumped their kit and grabbed all of the ammunition they could carry. Some then froze their balls off as they’d ditched their dossbags!
One thing not in the article; I was under the impression that the russkies were denied anything in or anything out. All roads in and out were closed and water and power cut. Not sure if this bit’s true?
