I’ve just bought a 52 year old Moulton from its original owner. My original intention was to rob it off parts for my older Moulton but when I collected it, it was too good. The end result was I started fixing up the older one.

After an afternoon of adjusting, oiling etc I pulled the wheels out to clean them up and then true them. (Got an audax coming up soon).

The wheels are the bikes originals, they have the appropriate crusty patina of their age etc

And it was when I put the spoke spanner to a nipple that I realised that the last hands to have worked on these wheels were probably those those of Jack Lauterwasser who made all the early Moulton wheels.

If you don’t know who he is, he built a 17½ lb steel bike in the 1930s, an Olympic silver medallist etc.
