I’ve cracked the head of the allen bolt in my Carver-type EBB, presently occupying a Gary fisher rig. I don’t know what brand the EBB is. I’ve cracked it by over-tightening, so fortunately it should stay in place for a while, but has a tendency to loosen over time.

Anybody replaced the main expansion bolt on one of these? As for removal, any ideas?

Have a chat with bencooper at Kinetics – he tweeted earlier about removing the bolt from one of these. I think it wasn’t easy…

Find a sacrificial Allen Key and Araldite it into place
At least the key wont slip!

If it’s a Carver EBB with the plastic sleeve new bolts are available from Bikeman.
Some of the newer bolts have an allen key fitting in both sides of the bolt so you might be able to get at it from the drive side.

Thanks Singlespeedstu I’ll check that out. Mine only has an Allen key fitting on one side unfortunately. It is a carver type one with the plastic sleeves though
