Well what more can you say. Went to Llandegla today full of the joys of spring, fettled with my brand new k900 seatpost (shiny red bits…oooh!) and set off. Heading down the black section that takes you to the elevated board walk when I had a momentary brain fade, went round corner far too fast and met a tree coming the other way at speed I might add, right in the middle of the path. A real 'oh ****' moment later and the bike's a write off with the top tube and down tune of the Remedy 8 bent. A nice obvious kink in the top tube and the down tube is well out of shape. Unf*****g believable, these tree's get everywhere these days!

Going to have to claim on insurance but the question is if you had a choice what would you replace it with?

The fact that you hit the tree hard enough to buckle the frame but not yourself is amazing. I guess Trek frames really are coming out way too weak.

I've found my Hustler great for crashing into trees, and chains, and a lot of other things. It excels at it. 😛

    Maybe a nice Scots Pine???
Or a small Oak albeit they are a bit expensive at the mo. Cheep option is a Hawthorn but not really user friendly.

Just seen them – although as above, had to log into facebook

That must have been a nasty crash to dint the top tub like that. Got a remedy myself – will keep it as far away from trees as possible 😉

edit – hope you get some luck on the insurance claim

2nd edit – replace it with a spicy?

I strongly advise against engaging tree's at speed, you can see the end result. Oh well still have an empty head on my shoulders so shouldn't worry too much!

So much for tapered steerers being tough as, or maybe the steerer passed on all the force through your frame 😉

I have a great bike for sale…barely used, loads of frame tape so no scratches although there's a couple of MBR stickers on the frame, makes it look rad, you know what I'm saying. Your's for only £500! It's a steal.

Bit of an extreme way of checking if you fancied a steeper
