Looking at servicing my Rockshox fork myself, rather than sending it off to TF.

Guides indicate cleaning the inside of the fork (and other parts) with isopropyl alcohol.

    Is this disk brake cleaner?
i cant find neat isopropyl without a perscription anywhere.
disk brake cleaner APPEARS to be the same stuff, bbut lemon fresh.

    Thanks team

I think it might be the stuff in whiteboard cleaning spray. Not sure though, I ended up getting a big tub from Maplin.

Yeah, I think it's the stuff with the red label (white can) – often sold as switch cleaner for guitars and stuff… I could be wrong though!

'Panel Wipe' from a motor factors is the same stuff.

Pricey though. Be careful with using automotive brake and clutch cleaners as some have oil in them.

    Maplin has already been mentioned.

IPA is just that, and sold as nothing else. Contact cleaner, brake cleaner are VERY different.
Maplins, about £10 a can from memory.

Just checked and yep it is in a white can with red writing – IPA 170 is what we've got…

AKA: Isopropanol or propan-2-ol. Have found it in Asda in the cheap nail polish remover section. About 90p for 200ml. But I usually steal it from the Lab 🙂

I had to try and track down some of this stuff for the same reason recently and couldn't find any. I read something somewhere online which suggested surgical spirit was almost the same stuff, so that's what I used. Forks haven't melted yet so fingers crossed.

Buy it at a chemist as rubbing alcohol,

Any decent solvent will do for cleaning the parts as long as it doesn't attack the plastic.
