Anyone out there ride regularly in the West Wight? Would you mind me tagging along? I’m not a novice and reasonably fit but I won’t be upset if you think I’m too slow and clear off 🙂

Go up to Brighstone quite a lot, I’m in Porchfield so it is handy. Grammars Common? where’s that.

    Hi Jerseychaz

I tag along with a regular-ish small group ride on Saturdays, meeting at various different points on the island, after being put in touch with the guys I ride with by daveatextremists on here.

Give us a shout via email f you want to come on the next one. I work shifts so I’m not out riding every week.

The same nucleus of guys do a night ride on Tuesday evenings, setting off from the car park at the disused railway line at Merstone at about 6:15pm.

The Saturday ride is generally quite an easy pace, the Tuesday evenings a bit more frenetic.

Dunno if I’d ride all the way from Ryde for it, it’s OK to incorporate in a ride you might be doing in that area. It’s like a bonsai Alpine switchback through pine trees, that doesn’t really go anywhere – once you get to the bottom you have to push your bike back up. 😀

    Hi Steve, stil daan caahs?
When I lived out WW used to go through grammars on the way to brightstone village before heading back up. Anyway its only about an hour and halfs riding to the forest so will probably check it out next time im there.

Hi Paul, yep, still daahn Caahs. There’s a nice little up-north-but-down south singletrack descent through heather and gorse on the way to it, towards the Mottistone estate/Longstone sort of area – it reminds me of the Whangie outside Milngavie, only with a view of chalk cliffs thrown in!

    jerseychaz – I live in Porchfield…

Being pretty slack at the moment though and need a new rear tyre, but apart from that, I do ride up Brighstone every now and then. Have been known to build a few well-known trails up there too…

    Cheers
