I seem to remember the oldest post on the front page was never less than 1 hour fresh and that you could post and reasonably expect a few replies even in the darkest depths of 3 or 4 in the morning. Now we seem to be getting to 9 or even 10 am and there are some 8 hour posts still clinging on at the bottom of the page. Is it just me? Maybe I’m looking a bit too favourably at the past now that I’m an old man etc etc?

Definitely. Forum dies after about 11pm these days, unless Drac is on nights… And no where NEAR as much arguing/constructive sharing of perspectives than there used to be. This may or may not be a good thing, depending on what you enjoy.

and apart form the occasional bit of jock-rage nothing seems to get the temperature rising – which is probably a “good thing” but makes it less fun as a spectator, place needs some proper big-hitters 😆

For me the forum has just got too middle class first world problems to be interesting.

BikeRadar is even worse, absolutely dropped off a cliff there. I’ve noticed it getting quieter here though.

Well none of us are getting any younger. The forum is mainly for those of us with not enough work/part time work during the day before we’re tucked up in bed early after a nice cup of cocoa…

[whinge]given that the biggerer and biggerer ads mean that the pages take at least 5% longer to load, if they load at all, I suppose that’s not too bad[/whinge]

I guess we have about 58 regular posters, so that means 7,227,200 lurkers.

A ratio of 1 poster to 1.25m lurkers!

I’d never considered the suffering of Chamois cream.

From a personal perspective this place is an absolute mine of information, but as mentioned above it does come across as very middle-class and at times almost elite-ist.I’m of average intelligence but occasionally have to Google what the hell some of you are talking about, and I mean terminology not technically !
I’d honestly rather view than post,as the typical reply % seems to consist of 15% helpful debate 15% agreement and 70% immediate high-brow judgemental smugness.
Its almost like certain people revel in being the first to belittle a new post on here,Noel Coward had nothing on some of you bitches!
N.B believe me I checked those percentages totalled 100% far too many times before posting, and almost auto-spelled Noel as Neil, imagine the irony of that !

Could it be simply that, as a couple of retailers have told me, mountain biking is flatlining while road cycling is growing? Go over to Cycle Chat and you’ll find it very busy, especially on the newbies and What Bike? fora.

Certainly happening a lot. Saddle Skedaddle were saying they’ve seen a big shift from MTB trips to road trips since the Olympics.

Lots of ‘old style’ forums are quieter, although this one seems perfectly busy, Facebook ‘groups’ and ‘sales’ pages have eaten into a lot of the traditional forum territory. All but killed another forum I frequent, a bunch got fed up with criticism of their posting style so they just set up a ‘secret’ group on Facebook where you only get invited by each other, kind of reverse moderation.
