I’m guessing it’s where the top tube meets the downtube?

That’s just where they have smoothed the weld isn’t it?

yep, it’s approx in the centre of where the top tube meets the down tube, there is also an apparent crack at he other end also.

I’d say ‘no’ but best be sure by taking it to a local framebuilder perhaps? LBS will just tell you its shagged and try to sell you a KTM, trek or other such crap!

wish it was a sticker, it’s a brand new frame 😥

I’m afraid that looks very much like a crack

Doesn’t look like a crack to me, looks like extra material from some process of some kind…

But I’ve no idea why you’d have such things within the headtube…

Looks like where the weld has burnt through and sagged inside and then be reamed/cleaned up.

not a crack (it’s new!) but not great finish, I’d contact seller.

I don’t think its a crack, looks like excess material pushed along/picked up by a finishing process. I wonder if they press a brooching tool down the headtube after fabrication and thats whats drawn the material along like that ? Its pretty poor anyway and needs a dose of looking at for sure.

thanks for all the replies, must agree. it looks as though the weld may have over penetrated and the harder material “picking up” when they have machined it. I suppose when your paying good money for a brand new frame you want it to be right!

Just where the metal has flaked inside when heated up to weld.

It should be fine, just go steady on installation of headset at right angle not a 90 degree angle :d

Was there ever a occlusion to the old crack or sticker thread?

Its a common issue with them. Ive seen it on several frame.
Contact the seller or NP and they should give you a replacement.
Let me know if you want an example from another rider.

The conclusion was based on the OP’s silence!

so ska, you would suggest definitely sending it back? example from another rider would be great, help is much appreciated!

Aye, I was going to say the only place I’ve ever seen that was on a Mega. I don’t know the outcome but there was a lot of chat about it last year. Concensus seemed to be that it was a side effect of the weld penetration or somesuch.

As frustrating as it may feel (God, you want that frame built up and to be out riding it) I’d send it back and ask for one without a dodgy weld.

Had a giant nrs 3 frame crack on me, they didn’t have same frame to send back to Me, so sent an nrs 1 frame, after asking if it was acceptable.
Think it’s a case of, if they cant fix/replace with same’ you are entitled to same value/greater value replacement.
Check trading laws, i.e. not fit for purpose.
