    …and other obvious statements…

He said Christmas was being sentimentalised into a fairy story, which he said was "tragic"

    Well, durrr.
Isnt it christmas mass attended by all the suddenly faithful middle classes what the church uses to claim mass religious observance in what is really an overwhelmingly a secular country?

This is "Bah Humbug No. 2" from a series of 15, being brought to you by Stoner over the coming weeks 😉

It's about time people remembered the true meaning of Christmas.

Lots of food and alcohol and a few days off work.

I just dont think hes thought through his argument very well….

Be careful making religious stories into fantasies…or some people might start thinking they're not true….Oh, ahhh….ummmm. Scratch that….

The rot set in years ago. It was that Jesus-following cult breaking away from the jews and then hijacking our winter festival that started it.

He added: "If we sing nonsense, is it any surprise that children grow into adults and throw out the tearless baby Jesus with Father Christmas and other fantasy figures?"

Not at all. Christianity without the nonsense -that's the way forward. It makes for a very simple belief system 😉

and a few days off work

In our case, 3 days of compulsory leave!

I think he just happened to be German living during the war. Being in the Hitler Youth was just like being in the Scouts if you were a German kind during the war.

I think most Xmas mass' are attended by the suddenly ejected from the pub, slightly pished and in the spirit of the season, and the chance of a mince pie and a sing-song middle classes, aren't they?

    Is the Pope catholic?

No, he was Anglican, but found that the Catholic church was prepared to match his salary and benefits, so thought the move would be good for his prospects.

It is true though, that Christmas is a right mess. As it stands, it's quite clear that Santa comes every year to bring Jebus to us from the North Pole to celebrate the winter solstice and spread goodwill to everyone. That's why it took the Wise men so long to turn up – they didn't have a clue what was going on.

If the church were truly sincere in their wish to make Christmas a celebration of the birth of Christ they'd be brave enough to move the festival to his birthday, rather than the pre-existing pagan festival that they appropriated.

To call the evil old git a Nazi is unfair. He had no choice whether to wear that particular uniform or not.

That said, you don't become the head of one of the worlds biggest organised crime syndicates by being a nice bloke, and his work over the years to protect paedophiles disgusts me.

glenp – thats interesting – when is Jesus Christ's actual birthday, and how do you know ? Does he invite you out to the pub via Facebook ?
