almost split down the middle then, with a slight leaning towards hatred.

Ok. That’s pretty much in line with what I suspected. Thanks STW, you’re all treasures to me x

No no. John Peel IS up there with Alan Bennett.

Although I’m not aware that Alan Bennett had sex with underage girls.

    David Attenborough – national treasure

    Pete Townsend – potential nonce

What Doris5000 said, though I’d add Eric Gill to the list.

I’ve no idea if PT has paedophilic tendencies or is just curious, but I would say that he is a pretentious revisionist who likes to think that all that mod nonesense was some sort of Peter Blake inspired radical thinking, rather than a bit of working class two fingers up angst.

Lots of great music though – Happy Jack, Dogs etc. and of course Tommy.

No. He’s no Lord Byron. Though as a gay man who was born in 1934 it’s possible he was a criminal i.e. had sex with underage men, as all men were underage until 1967.

    Tommy? Featuring wicked Uncle Ernie?

Where did they get the idea?

    David Attenborough – national treasure

    Pete Townsend – potential nonce

John Peel – Self confessed Nonce?

Did anyone here get caught up on the Operation Ore thing that Pete Townshend got implicated in?

This article suggests that some of those implicated were merely victims of credit card fraud

“Some British victims of card fraud who later suffered from police mistakes in Operation Ore believe their troubles began after they bought bicycle parts online”

    Bit worrying!?!

As a musician he has created a phenomenal catalogue of music (and there are some dire songs in there too, accepted).

Saw The Who line in 1980 and again in 2014, a privilege to see.

As a person? Who knows? Always comes across as arrogant on the tele!

I would like to see his partner in crime Roger Daltrey honoured though, not for the music, but for his part in founding The Teenage Cancer Trust #TCT … genius!

Led Zeppelin – you’d rapidly lose a lot of great art if you stopped listening to everything that was done by a git…

    😕

Who’s a git in Zeppelin? I know Plant gets a bit arsey about being forever associated with Zep and having to perform Stairway etc, but other than that none of them ever came across badly when I’ve seen them talk or read interviews

i don’t know all the stories but they were pretty notorious –

jimmy page’s relationship with a 14 year old
that time they tied up a groupie and violated her with a fish
various reports of violence and blackmail (i know the manager in particular was big on this, but several of them were charged and sued over that time they battered a security guard backstage)

Ah, the seventies. And the always reliable recollections of junkie alcoholic Richard Cole. 🙂
