  • Is my seat post in far enough?

Just bought a new to me bike and the seller advised me to check this.
What’s the official verdict ? Seat post goes to bottom of black tape.

Wasn’t there a thread a couple of weeks ago where someone had snapped an extended seat tube like that by not inserting enough? It might have been a Commencal.. All a bit vague I know, if you can find it it might show how much seatpost he had in his frame.

I realise this isn’t a hugely helpful addition..

I wouldn’t ride it unless the post was 3 or 4 cm below the seat stay weld. Assuming that the seat tube isn’t internally butted higher up.

Personally, I’d want at least another 3cm in there.

    Fnaar, fnaar.

I’d also like to see a bit more post in there, though.

Ditto I would want it below those braces.

What length is the post? Cost of a 400mm+ post is not a lot…

Cost is not a lot. I’m just very impatient!
    It’s a 340 post will get a 400 in there.

There was a long thread about this, and a warranty woe, a few weeks back i think ?

Wait for the 400 one, then ride with vigour 😆

The top of that seat tube doesn’t look too chipper just under the clamp?

Depending on the width 450mm seatposts are a good option IMO

Ooh more insertion needed Matron. Plus if it’s a V1 fatty (IS rear disk tabs) then even more so as seen a few crack at the seat post

Jup get more seat post in, had the same frame, mine cracked on all three welds

A 400 will reach the top of the tape which is 50 below the bottom of the weld. Will that be enough to ward off the crack fairies?

If its not then something is seriously wrong

As long as it’s below the seat stay bridges, I’d say your fine. The original photo looks too short.

The only question is can I wait for my £10 Superstar seat post to turn up or do I go and get a £50 Thomson from Evans tomorrow?

What’s the point of these seat masts? Why not just have the collar / clamp closer to the top tube / seat stay junction and save on a few grams of material?

Absolutely agree. It’s ridiculous that a manufacturer can make a frame that can fail when used just as virtually any other bike. Fashion taking the pee.
