    not sure if you can do it directly with the operator, but Android phones (and I expect others) have apps which monitor usage and can provide warnings and stop downloads when they reach determined levels.

    Is that even worth the bother, you limit their phone data, they’ll just get internet elsewhere. Dunno about other people but i’ve pretty much always got a source of internet where ever i go.

    ^^. PAYG so they cannot incur any extra costs. Just get the goodbags for a £10 p/m, so they get unlimited texts/interwebs ans 200ish mins of calls.

    If you have an iPhone try an app called Data Usage, you can set you monthly data limit and it will provide warning and even stop data service if you go over your limit.
    Think there is an Android version to.

    i use 3g watchdog for my android. seems to work quite well, you can set it to cut off all data at a certain point. Mine warns me at 75% and cuts off at 99%.
