  • Is it possible to convert a Rockshox Sektor coil Dual Position to an air spring?

Has anyone done this or does anyone know if it’s possible?
I’ve converted the rebound to the Revelation dual flow already, but I can’t find any info as to whether the coil Dual Position CSU will take an air spring assembly. It seems the standard coil (non DP) will but I’m not sure if this one will.
I’m wondering if a solo air or dual air will fit? Reason being is I never get full travel & it’s not that sensitive on smaller stuff. I could go for the lighter DP coil spring but thought I’d go for the fine tuning you get with air.
It still has the standard compression damper so maybe changing that would make a difference.
As I’ve already done the rebound, I have the spare part to go back in instead of the top out spring should I fit an air spring.
If no one knows I might make an educated guess next time I need to service them & check the bottom of the stanchion to see if there’s a groove for the circlip from the air spring assembly. If so I’ll re-post if it works.

Most of the info should be there, there will also be a spare part list. Just search by model year. Most of them are the same body with different internals. If your going to buy parts from a suspension specialist they should be able to confirm it.

The tech docs are a really good resource and just googleing the for/year and “Sram Technical Document” brings the up most of the time.

Thanks, I’ll check it out. I’ve heard people say in the past that some part numbers that are different are actually the same part, and some parts that they say can’t be interchanged actually can.
But if they do confirm it’s ok then that settles it.
    Cheers.

Just stripped the fork & the lower on the spring side doesn’t have an internal groove for the cir clip that retains the air spring assembly – instead the end of the tube is shaped with a shoulder to retain the spring assembly inserted from above. According to the diagrams the solo air assembly goes in from below, so it looks like it’s a no in this case.

Why do you want to convert it to air spring? For the easier preload adjustability?

My Cube had a coil sprung fork and l found it more progressive than my Sektor Solo Air, with less stiction on small hits.

Yes, just to set it up easier. I tend to run forks softer than recommended & the standard spring is quite stiff – I get about 20% sag. I might just go for a lighter spring, that should sort it, but I don’t find the coil spring any better or more sensitive than any of the air forks I’ve used in the past.
    Will see what happens…
Incidentally, when you fit the dual flow rebound it reduces the travel from 150 to 140mm, so it effectively preloads the 150mm spring. It was still too stiff with the standard rebound fitted & full travel, but if I replace the spring assembly for the lighter one I’ll probably go for the 140mm as it will match the modified damping side.
