Today's 50 year olds are quite likely to be ageing punk rockers

Ah them were the days Punk Rock… …I remember it well

my mate is still having counciling [sic]

    😀

Ran Feinnes says you have to work harder to maintain your fitness and power past 45, that's all. Oh let's forget about his massive heart attack, bypass op, then running seven marathons on different continents in one week. Did he not re-marry a younger woman too? A force of nature to look up to and emulate (maybe not the heart attack).

Nope. It gives the young 'uns someone to chase.

I used to get a regular kicking from a chap who was 20yrs my senior around the W Lancs Moors. Compelled me to pull my finger out and train. Just not enough to sort out some the 60+yr olds in the road club. The shame of it……

If I said something along those lines to my Dad whose at the tender age of 65 and a regular rider of all the trails in Brechfa [proper and man-made ones] and surrounding areas he would would probably say something along the lines of 'what age do you give up living' or just give me a clip around the ear.

Better not tell my mate Eug'.
He's a good few years the wrong side of 50 & can kick my lardie ass.
In fact no, please tell him.

I know Eug and can verify his prowess on his bike… you youngsters out there would get a whipping on any circuit..
I am a spring chicken at 52 and not as old as that when on my bike.. I am concerned about the OP ageism tack..
Keeping fit is what NHS would rather we do.. the odd tumble comes with the territory and as you get fitter these knocks shake off that bit quicker in my view – regardless of age.

Actually, 50's too old to be breathing. I'm sick of living in a gerontocracy.

Slot the lot of them so we can have some houses, and don't have to pay a lod of tax to fund their pensions / feeding and backside wiping.

How about we ban smokers – a few of them must pop a valve pushing their bikes up the hills.

What?? Pft. I tell you what, I'll give you a head start, then overtake you on my singlespeed, and I'll be waiting for you at the top, puffing a ciggie… 😉

My best riding buddy will be 50 next year and he's still riding hard. I was out on Wednesday night with the local bike club and the guy who was showing us round is 53. He reckoned he was a bit tired still from the weekend but only because he'd won the Peak to Peak road sportif on Saturday 🙂

50? nah no probs if you're fit you'll enjoy it more than some fat twenty something.

Seen 70+ yr olds on the trail in Wales who said is something wrong while I bonk'd out of energy!

Posted before, but here we have 40s 50s 60s and 70s having a break from an eight hour chaingang, fast as ****. The 70 year old is ex GB andI think rode the Tour.

52 and did 6 hours 2 mins for Brecon Beast – not too bad for an old guy. Think its the lardy younger guys that need to get a grip.

I'm 67 (68 in Nov)so I guess I should have stopped riding 18 years ago? I started mountain biking at 50 and still ride 3 days a week on average and one of those days at or above 8000 ft elevation. Maybe I'm already dead and just don't know it. Not the fastest anymore, but sure as hell am not the slowest by a long-shot.

I'm 43 on Monday and am a lot fitter and a lot faster than I was when I was 33. Took my inspiration from some of the fast oldies at various events over the last few years …"I wanna be like that when I grow up".

…oh yes, and I still get excited about new bike bits for birthdays! Wahay!

yes, 50 is too old to be riding bikes off-road.

it's also too old to be playing rugby, skiiing, climbing, entertaining attractive people of one's gender of preference, dancing at weddings, having kids, singing in the shower, building your own house, learning a foreign language, starting a rock band, doing anything interesting with your life.

i've got no idea what it's like to be 50, but i hope it's mostly like being 32, only with cheaper car insurance.

What was the age in BladeRunner? – that would be a good cut off point….

If it keeps going like this we'll be having Downhill Zimmer Frame racing. 🙂

No because SimonFBarnes is like 87 or something but still riding around like a deranged beetle and photographing ladies' bottoms like a mad 'un.

I think if he lost his passion for bottoms then he'd have to be put down. It would be the Kindest Way.

Actually, apart from a few MBUK jump kids, and some proper whippety types, you don't tend to see that many under 30s out there. Why is that? Question of money? Or are the feckless yute dem too busy with drugs andFaceBlank and that?

It's Obese Britain, that's what it is. When I were young, we couldn't afford to get fayt. And we were too busy shoplifting to develop pressure sores and all these allergies kids have now.

See that's the problem. CCTV. When I were a lad, I could score hundreds of pounds worth of stuff, in just one visit to C+A.

There's not even C+A left now. What hope do these poor children have? 😥

That was a day in France. He went for the 'Well Tour riders of the past drank wine on the go' he got a bit pissed I think so we stopped for a few Grand Cremé before the dash for home.
I assume you know him through the trade?
