  • Is 40:18 going to feel any more efficient than 34:15?

    Buiding my SS cross bike up. Those are very similar ratios, but I happen to have the bits for the latter, and don’t happen to have a spare 40t ring. Any issues with the smaller cog combination?

    never done SS or cross but smaller rings are lighter, so for same ratio, they should feel better, but will wear out faster. can’t see anything else change significantly? also more ground clearance. shorter chain. wear on the 15t may well be an issue.

    Thanks. Only using DX cogs so a bit of wear’s not really an issue at £2.99 a pop

    You’ll clear logs easier. I use 22×14. Doesn’t wear that quick and I use it a lot
