    After a seat clamp – the original is 32.0 – can only find 31.8 – is this close enough ?!

    Should be. I’ve used a 32.0 instead of a 31.8 before.

    Saying that, i was using bigger than needed, rather than smaller. Still think it SHOULD go though

    Yes- it should open up with the help of a flat headed screwdrive and pop on nice and snug. The thread should still go in straight?

    Yes, just read it on a website that it will fit….but cannot remember what site, sorry! And I’m assuming website telling the truth?
