Like it or not still being in possesion of 4 Trident armed submarines does still make us a major military power. Despite the government not living up to their responsibility to make sure the rest of the armed forces are properlly staffed and equipped for the world of today and tomorrow.
The Iranians know how to play this however, there is no way we can use the threat of massive retaliation (or even just a small bang) for a slap in the face which will probably be the arrest of more embassy staff.
This will remain in the realm of the diplomats for now.

The utter nerve of the British and American governments - to accuse Iran of being a sponsor of terrorism whilst at the same time aiding and encouraging turmoil and terrorist activities within Iran! Iran is getting closer and closer to full operation of its Oil Bourse and our threatening and badgering of them has little to do with anything else - if they succeed in really getting the selling of oil in currencies other than the dollar of the ground in a really big way the US is screwed.

Open your eyes cranberry. Look for yourself. We have instigated and/or assisted the overthrow of Iranian governments before and we are trying to do it again. We backed Iraq in waging a full-on war against Iran - it is just not credible in my mind to think that there isn't a good deal of covert US and probably British activity going on right now.
Research Iranian Oil Bourse and draw your own conclusions. Look up which countries have ever tried to sell oil in a currency other than the US dollar, and see what has happened to those countries.
