The wife wants one for Christmas. I've got a Creative one that i think is great and I can use existing software etc. to manage the content. If she has an iPod, am I going to need to move / copy all of our music library to iTunes or can i also use Media Player to manage the iPod?

No need to move the music library just need to point itunes to your MP3 folder/s.

Yes. When you install iTunes you can say import tracks and tell it where you music is. You choose to either keep it in it's original location or (better) copy it to a specific iTunes folder.

ITunes always seems to get a bad name on here. I must say it has been nothing but perfect for me but then, if I want to fiddle with how something works and risk breaking it, I tend to do that in work time rather than on my home pc. Much less bother!!

    Under Options > Advanced

untick "Copy files to itunes media folder when adding to library"

then drag the old folder into iTunes, and then spend 2 days fixing all the tags that is has now become apparent are completely wrong 🙂
