A lass at work has an iphone and a laptop. Can she connect to the net on her laptop via the iphone/usb cable – if so how?

I think most phones can be used in this way. No idea how.

Apple stuff is meant to be very user friendly and easy for idiots to work though 😛

she can use the iphone as a tethered modem via bluetooth AFAIK. I think she'll get stung with O2 data charges though. A simple google search on tethering+o2+bluetooth will return instructions and warnings aplenty…

O2 may distinguish between 3G use on the phone and 3G use as a modem and charge more for it, T-Mobile certainly do

officially yes, though you have to pay o2 15 quid a month for the privelege. shocking, especially as there is no payg option like their normal mobile broadband 🙁
