I have an iphone that is approx 10 months old and yesterday the screen started going black when trying to open and delete emails and then it goes back to the front screen. It seems to be alright doing everything else, has anyone had the same problem and if so what was the solution?

Never had that happen. You could connect to iTunes, back-up and restore?

    hard reboot?

Reset the iPhone by holding the sleep/wake button at the top right of the device and the home button at the bottom center of the face at the same time. Hold them both until you see the screen go black and the white Apple logo appear. When this happens, you can let go – the iPhone is rebooting.

whats the difference between resetting and restoring as I don't want to lose anything on it. It is backed up on my computer but if the problem is sat in the back up it won't go away.

resetting/rebooting will not loose any data from your phone.
Restoring will put it back to how it was when you backed it up..

Take it back to the apple store – up to 1 year they'll just replace it (assuming there's a problem and the reboot doesn't work).

Hmm, restored and it still doesn't work, as soon as I delete an email it comes straight back in if the screen doesn't go black.

try deleting the email account and re-add it back in?
Or just take it back & get a re-conditioned unit.
