I'm working in Edinburgh ATM and staying in one of the uni halls (as the festival is on and all cheap B&Bs are full).

There is broadband access provided in the rooms, you just plug in via an ethernet cable.

I am getting a lot of page load errors. Google.com will not load, whereas google.co.uk will load. Things like hotmail, STW, BBC.co.uk will not load, but if I pull out the ethernet cable and reconnect it they will load fine.

Will this be an over protective university IT dept being picky on what you can view, or just some settings I need to change on my PC?

    Any help appreciated.

Probably won't be uni filters. AFAIK unis don't filter, but will monitor what people are browsing (from time to time). Ring the IT helpline or look for setup instructions on the uni website.

I don't know a lot about internet settings really. Using firefox and it does seem problematic since the last update. However still having the problems when using IE too.

    I'll check the website
