With the cost of pads rocketing (£19.99RRP for my Avid juicy 3 pads….!!), would it save cash if there were only a couple of variations on disc pad shape/backing shape?

Part of the (increasing) cost of these things has to be how many pads / shape need to be held in stock by a shop, distribution of them, and how many different stamps/lines for production…

A ‘standard’ shape or three would cut down massively – you could have small/xc, trail and double sized DH pads – designers then work from there on caliper design….?

best thing about standards is there are so many to chose from….

Rockhopper – LBS had sintered Clarks ones in £3 cheaper than that…. 🙂

It was just an observation – would make shops / importers / riders lifes much easier – most disc pads fitting another bike in emergencies etc etc.

each manufacturer has chosen the ‘optimum’ shape. they will all have different reasoning. I’d think it’d be difficult to convince them to change. (particually shimano)

would be great, think of the number of things that could be standardised.

But no chance any of them will happen.
