We have been with M and S for years but the pucy was ridiculously high this year for renewal. I got a quote from John Lewis but they had a limit on the total value of bikes to be insured- however they have a specialist department called Sterling and I’ve just taken cover out with them at nearly half the cost of the M and S renewal quote.

Interesting, we’ve gone with the AA this year after moving house. covered all my bikes, although there was a limit but a bit of a thinning of the fleet means I’m well under it.

Also, It was 20% cheaper to take out the policy in my GF’s name with me as the 2nd than it was the other way around. We only clocked this as we both were searching on different computers.

Tried NFU after a recommendation on here, £850 😮 for a 3 bed detached, nowhere near anywhere that floods, in a nice village!

    Pedalcover.
One of the few threads about them on here.
I did contents with them £40 cheaper than M&S.

    My M&S renewal was £850
My AMEX equivalent cover was £337 (I don’t have an AMEX card)
I had to name all bikes (and anything over £1000 or easily stealable) which was a pain though.

Most of these are underwritten by AXA afaik.

Has anyone had to claim from Pedalcover? There have been lots of recommendations about them being very cheap but it would be good to know how they are in the event of a claim.

I have esure – 2 bikes specified as they are worth over £1500 – buildings and contents cover was £290 for a 4 bed detached. Bike was nicked from internal garage along with a laptop and they paid up no probs – even waved the £300 excess. I had to add my new bike to the policy and that has cost me £50 from now until Feb. Not sure about cover away from home but it is the cover in the house that I want – I insure it when it comes on holiday with me.

I’m also with esure and policy cost about the same as mentioned above. Listed the bikes and all items over £1000, last renewal they were once again the cheapest for the amount of cover.

With John Lewis/Sterling you don’t have to list the bikes at all whatever the value and there is no upper limit to the total value of bikes you have. Was very simple to get set up.

Same with pedalcover or at least it’s a very high limit.
It’s a free phone number, have a chat with Darren, he’s very helpful and not pushy.

Esure here as well, pleasantly surprised with their quote, first time the bikes have been insured for ages as we usually “self insure”, ie, wife says ” Don’t be so silly”
