  • Installing deep cup headset, a job for the pros?

Ok, following help from the forum, I am now the owner of a nice FSA Pig DH Pro stainless steel deep cup headset.

Tried to install it tonight and despite prepping the tube, only managed to get one cup 80% in and the other 50%.

Some while later, courtesy of a hammer and large screwdriver, I got the cups out again.

Am I attempting the impossible to install this item?

Have you checked the headtube will accept the depth of cup?

It is a steel frame so I made the assumption that it would….

Headtube needs to be reamed to the right depth.
A kettle of boiling water over the headtube, and lots of copperslip might help.

You may need the headtube reaming to get it to fit, so a job for the pros i guess

FSA steel headsets are always super tight & personally i wouldnt use one.

They can be so tight that they deform or stretch headtubes. I certainly wouldnt fit a deep cup one. Look at a CK steelset £150 (steel deep cup) or Acros AH-07 £75 (aluminium deep cup).

    Both with good guarantees.

I am pleased to say that Sigma Sport installed this for me FoC this morning – it was great service.

The headset is awesome no more wiggling or creaking!
