I don't want to harp on about the old days, but my nerdish interest in racing as far back as the thirties has shown me one thing, in eighty years – cycling hasn't really changed much, but we have.
I actually feel envious of their period in time, And even more of the amount of time they had. Not to mention the quieter roads.
And if you look at the stats and records they put up on old heavy steel bikes with nothing aero about them, and wearing loose wool kit there pretty amazing.
So I've been hankering for Sunday rides like mine used to be where a hundred miles wasn't a goal it was the norm. I can recall the old boys felt short changed at anything under 170 miles!
Now I've stopped road racing, I'm going to get the old Five speed steel bike rebuilt and head out before dawn once again.
I'm looking forward to fat blokes on their Colnagos in dollar dollar kit sneering at me 😀
    Just thought I'd share that.
