The universal language for 2 beers is:

    Stick two fingers up

    Then say

Beer (with pouring beer into mouth motion).

I know it works because that’s what we used to say all over Europe.

At one point I knew Sweedish, but for the life of me, I can’t remember it now…

    I should really learn Dutch.

Två Öl, Tack. Eller Två Stor Stark, Tack. One will get you the cheapest draught beer, the other will get you the strongest draught beer…….

Used to be able to do English, French, German, Dutchish/Flemish (I lived in a very Flemish area for a few years, so my Dutch was technically Flemish), Spanish, Portuguese and Catalan. Or at least make myself understood in a near approximation of the local language.

Now down to English, Spanish and Swedish. Plus a near approximation of Norwegian and Danish, as long as i’ve had enough beer first.

As I don’t have much to brag about I’m just going to point out that these days you don’t need to know it, as long as you have a working Internet connection. Translate.google.com at your service. Their Russian pronunciation is spot-on, Latvian is a comedy robot voice – still guaranteed to get your two beers and a laugh at/with you.

Oh, and I can ask for “another one” in Dutch…. just not the first one.

This would work and is absolutely correct. But you tend to hear polite forms more often than please. I might say something like “iki bira verebilirmisiniz”, essentially to highlight that I ain’t getting this shite from no phrasebook.

(Whilst shaking a glass in one hand and raising two fingers with the other, to ensure the – probably german – barman knows what I’m actually asking for.)

    Every language

You simply point at the bottle or tap and then show two figers 😀

On a serious note, English and Tagalog.
