Going Bivi ing. Need to carry:

    – Sleeping bag (a smallish down one)
    – 3/4 length thermarest
    – Bivi bag (alp kit hunka)
    – Sleeping bag liner
    – Canon 30D SLR with small ish lens
    – 3L Camelbak bladder
    – Tiny stove + food

I brought a Camelbak hoss, but I tried to shove everything in last night, and it wasn’t really big enough (quite unstable) – I’ll probably flog it on fleabay. So how big a bag do I need? 35L?

    Any suggestions on what bag?

Have a look at the OMM sacks. They’re built light and robust.

25-35 depending on the brand. go to a camping shop and you will see the massive variation in the measurement standards.

i use a 22L osprey talon – and that is rammed (with no stove), others use the 35L version.

Alpkit 25 or 30 Litre Gourdon will do it. Personally, I’d go for the 30L.
It takes a hydration bladder as well. Also, it’s a dry bag so all your stuff stays protected from rain/dew whilst you snooze away. I wouldn’t use one for multi-day excursions ‘cos the straps aren’t padded and can be a bit uncomfortable after a couple of days. Allright for overnight trips though. At £22.50 you can’t go wrong.

Something like this http://www.theomm.com/products/packs/classicMarathon32L.html or the smaller one
I have an old prototype one (from a chap i work with/ he designs them) and its the best rucksac i’ve ever had – very comfy

    Second vote for the gourdon.
been using one every day for the last year and really get on with it.
cheap well made and does the job, 30l for bivvy stuff.

    This one for me http://www.blackdiamondequipment.com/gear/rpm.php

Great climbing or winter pack as well. Plus I can fit all my Polaris gear in it as well.
