The other night my gear cable broke whilst on a ride, not normally a problem but it broke very close to the end and the cable nipple got stuck inside the brifter.

I’ve taken it apart and removed the cable remnant but can’t now get is back together. Its all fine apart from the spring that returns the lever after a gear change.

To go back together correctly the spring needs tensioning whilst simultaneously going between the lever and mechanism any suggestions other than buying a new one?
