And wanted to come round with a carpet fitter to measure up for new carpets, would you feel they were taking the proverbial?

Not at all, each to their own and all the that.

What is it that’s bothering you?

No they may want to price it all up and choose so that the fitters can get in on the day they move before the furniture goes in

Are you offended that they don’t like your carpets ? 😕

The person buying my aunt and uncle’s house expected one of them to stay in so that the architect could come round again 3+ weeks before completion…

Bearing in mind the fact that the buyer had caused all the problems in the chain, they felt that re-arranging their plans to fit round the architect was a bit much to expect, particularly given they were only getting a couple of days’ notice!

I’m the buyer but want to gauge opinion, be respectful ‘n all that.

Edit: you after a bite Neal?

    No, a fairly standard request.

I’d be glad – it’s reassuring that they are serious and not just chancers about to drop out of the deal at the last minute.

    No. Are you ?

I have the same answer as everybody else gave.

If you’d said you were the buyer in the first post then I would have said …

Some of us not wealthy enough to consider new carpets have asked about measuring windows for curtains.

Not at all. Don’t expect them to place any great value on your carpets. Assuming you haven’t agreed fixtures and fittings yet.

Why would they not like their own carpets? Are you foaming at the mouth while typing?

You wouldn’t do the measuring until you’ve exchanged.

Haha my buyers measured up for block paving, a new conservatory, new patio and turf. About the only thing they didn’t measure up were the carpets.

Oh …you are the buyer! What’s wrong with their carpets?! Not up to your usual standard of pron set deep shag in ivory white?!

Aren’t all the room dimensions on the house schedule/ brochure?

I think it’s fairly usual, we’ve certainly done so to the house were buying, well for furniture rather than carpets but it’s the same thing. Mind you, the last house we looked at we went back and found the bugger had put a fence across the garden and halved its size. Quite glad we went back to that one!

Oh, and organic, no, I really wouldn’t trust an estate agent to measure a dimension!

We measured up for sofas etc before we got the keys, had a good natter with the previous owners too.

    What’s your problem?

As the others had said it’s a good sign. I would be nice to them, people can drop out at the last minute.

i would be pleased as it seems you are serious though I would also point out the dimensions were in the estate agent information and wonder why you wanted to do it yourself

Most carpet places I’ve ever been in to insist on measuring it themselves as it means less hassle for them should the carpet be the wrong size.

I’d be pleased as punch to be honest. You’d probably get a cup of tea on arrival too.

Can anyone explain why there is a dining table in the bedroom/bed in the dining room of the purple house?

Perhaps its a room in a house of ill repute.

It depends on whether they’d exchanged contracts or not. If they’ve exchanged, or you’ve accepted their offer and everything seems to be steaming ahead, then, no problem. If it’s purely speculative, then their carpet fitter should be able to price from plan.
