Flying over Lambley (a few miles North East of Nottingham) at about half two (ish) yesterday afternoon. Pretty high but could have feasibly come from East Mids. Transport plane I’d say, grey colour, high mounted swept wing and tail plane, didn’t look big enough to be a C17 (may have only been a two engine jobbie and at the height it APPEARED to be it looked about the SIZE of a Hercules but I could be very wrong) but it was pretty bright out so had to make do with squinting at it so who knows, it could have been. Research suggests my height/size perception was off and it was a C17. One thing, it sounded a bit weird. Sounded like a cross between a jet and a prop.

Yeah, googled that and wrote it off as this thing I saw looked sleeker but the size, and possibly the noise off the contra-props (must find a vid on YouTube or something) means it could well have been that, it was certainly “different” to what I’m used to seeing.

yeah, i saw one recently over the NW of England, and I’m sure it was the A400, different as you say to a cargo jet or the smaller Herc.

It flew past Edinburgh about an hour later, I thought it was Thunderbird 2.

I’d have sworn the wings were more swept but I reckon you chaps are spot on and it can only be an A400. Good pic Mikkel, thanks. Edinburgh an hour later sounds about right too, doesn’t it?

    Transall C-160?

Does sound more like an A-400, they do make an odd sound, but then so do the latest version of the C-130, which has six-bladed props, and are grey.
The more swept wing gives the biggest clue to it being an A-400, though.
