Started off in Canada, now flying north. Done about 400 miles due north so far. Heading stable but altitude keeps climbing to about 10,000ft which makes me slow down then I descend to about 6000 where the increased speed makes me climb again.

You’ll be alright unless you need to overtake someone.

    Wouldn’t matter.

He wouldn’t be able to catch him.

Molgrips has a 400 mile head start

He can’t….. there’s no wifi at the North Pole.

    which aircraft are you flying?

I picked a silly place to start. Even in an F16 it looks like I still have about 6 hours to go before I get anywhere interesting.

Interesting meaning the Himalays into which I’ll crash at this altitude. Didn’t plan this very well.

Does it simulate crosswinds? Try landing at Leeds Bradford…

Altitude completely stabilised now, zero rate of ascent

If you get to 500 miles, you’ll need to go another 500 more etc etc…

Have the passengers started trying to break down the cockpit door yet?

    Given he’s in an F16 that’s unlikely.

I’m waiting for Finland air defence to intercept.

Slightly worried by molegrips lack of replies.

Either Finland’s air defences are indeed up to scratch, or he’s come back from lunch to find all of his personal items in a cardboard box on his desk and an awkward silence.

After reading this, I thought I would fly out of Toronto in a DC-3, but it turns out I don’t even know how to take off. I quit after my plane started going backwards along a city street.

Is this supposed to be amusing?

I’m over the top now. Missed the north pole of course since I was only on a rough heading. Made it to about 86 deg N now I’m going S and slightly W I think. The sea has become really lumpy which is rather weird. Perhaps a glitch, perhaps the altitude data has come from scanning ice floes but the images are still blue sea.

SR are you in google earth?

It’s easy. Page Up to increase throttle, then mouse back to take off when you get up to speed. Press G to bring gear up and shift F to reduce flaps to zero. Or you can start from altitude. But you will need to reduce flaps and bring gear in whatever you do.

Also in flight sim mode you can pause with space, click to get your mouse pointer back, then go to the view menu and select sidebar. On there, select 3D buildings and any other stuff you want for maximum coolness.

Sure is a lot of tundra… Passed a town though.. Ust-Port with 338 inhabitants. I find the concept of living in a place so remote just incredible.

Ust-Port is pretty remote. Google maps won’t even give me driving directions, and the nearest restaurant according to google is in Denmark!

Reminds me of one of my more interesting ( 🙂 ) local facts. If you walk up to the top of the hill behind my house and fly off the top heading due east while remaining at the same altitude, you won’t crash until the Urals in Central Russis

Well, I made it here, Xinjiang province in China.

I came upstairs to check and by amazing coincidence found myself seconds from smashing into a huge mountain that rises abruptly out of the plain. Incredible scenes.

I’m driving from Tolouse to the East of Russia, or something. Overnight.

Bounces along quite happily by itself, if you set the thrust right. F16 BTW

I gave up when I got to the Indian ocean. Should’ve left it going. I’ll try again tonight and see if I can fly indefinitely.
