I’ve been making an effort to get fitter with a bit o gym work, laying off the crap, giving up bread etc (note to self, need to find a new vehicle for marmite and tinned pilchards)

The offroad ups are definitely getting easier but I’m beginning to think a road bike might be a worthwhile investment to get even more gains.

Can the STW roadie hivemind help me pick out a suitable road bike? I wont be using for anything other than getting fit, i.e no commuting, no touring etc. so no need for panniers, mudguards etc.
Ideally, I’d like something light, good value that I wont want to upgrade anytime soon, and if possible, with a bright colourscheme.

I got £600-ish to spend, is that enough?

edit: what minimum spec should i be looking at? do you know of any deals on at the moment?

    Cheers

Not eating bread? How does that make you fitter?

And for £600, you’d get a fair decent bike 2nd hand.

Tiagra is the lowest i’d go really. You can’t go far with this defy for the money http://www.paulscycles.co.uk/products.php?plid=m7b4s6p4260

Failing that have a look at the decathlon Triban 5 here http://www.decathlon.co.uk/triban-5-id_8167039.html

I’m feeling the need too cheez0.

May well result in the death of a careless driver but fitness is a priority and gyms are soul destroying.
