I report stuff that seems a bit ‘weird’ or odd to me if I see it, it happens rarely but when it does I report it. I don’t really expect a call back but I just got one, suppose its good that they let you know. I have no point to this thread, I’m just bored.

I once reported a **** of a driver on my journey home. I saw him doing the same ridiculous overtakes two days later, they’d clearly done **** all!!

I got a Market Research call today asking how my dealings with North Wales police went when I reported my bike stolen. I’d usually tell these kinda calls to go hassle someone else on my day off. But I thought it was pretty good that the cops are (forced to be?) self-aware enough to be bothered about my opinion of them! I gave them 7/10 tbf. I actually got this call yesterday and put ’em off till today cos I couldn’t be bothered, and the call reminded me that I had better inform the cops that I have recovered my bike! The fact that it is still a “live” case no copper has pulled me over for spotting my “stolen” bike being ridden about here, a mile from where it was “stolen” shows exactly how easy it is to pinch a bike and get away with it and how non-plussed the cops are about it. It’s only a bike.

It’s nothing to do with being “only a bike”- do you think all the coppers could walk around with a list of nicked bikes and check it every time they see anyone cycling? Cars have number plates for easier recognition but even then they don’t routinely check cars (unless they have ANPR kit).

no. I didn’t expect too much really. What can they do? That’s why I gave ’em a pretty good review to the market research company. I thought I was dealt with very well. They followed it up as much as they could.

I tried out the non-emergency number today for the first time.

Went out to screwfix to replace my angle grinder that packed in and when I got back 40 minutes later there was a silver PC tower on the pavement that wasn’t there when I left.

Had a look at it, no “please help yourself” note and not trashed so called the old bill. Said I would wait outside – amazingly no one really looked at it and just walked past. After 20 minutes I was getting bored and the Police called to say no one was in my area – I am sure I passed a couple 5 minutes away just sitting in their cars. The woman asks me to take it into my house and they would pick it up tomorrow. Then just as I try and pick it up without smudging any prints on normal pick up points or leaving any of my own a police car drives past, typical! Flag him down and he says he was passing anyway so thought he would see if it was still there.

It was some horrible silver case with blue lights – obviously a custom built thing but no idea on the spec. I got the impression they thought I was a bit mad for reporting it as most people would ignore it or help themselves. It may not have been the newest thing around but it still could have been someones PC with all their pictures etc on.

I walked home, 1030 odd pm, guy sat on ground playing with bike, try’s to speak to me, I ignore. Then, just up road two polish guys pull up in car, block my path, try to speak to me. Again I ignore, they watch me, then pull on to road and drive off. Prob doesn’t seem weird to you reading this but felt a bit ‘set up’ because they said,’oh is that boyfriend, have you fallen out, what’s wrong’ and pulled into someone’s drive to block my path. They were young, seemed like been drinking and were in a rather nice car. Just spooked me as they had to go to so much trouble to block my way.

first thing I thought when I saw it was “I wonder if there is any home made porn on there”. Bet they will have a good nose down the station! Accidentally come across a few corkers on peoples PCs over the years.

Funniest had to be when I was installing a network in a house for some other students (old days before wireless and running cat5 up and down 5 storey houses). Setting up one of the PCs and as I move the mouse up the Start menu up pops the guys recent documents list full of porn jpegs. Guy was standing next to me looking mortified so I bit my lip and carried on with what I was doing and had a good chuckle about it later.

I used to install 999 call centres. I’d normally stay around for a week or two bottoming out the little problems with the system once it went live. The ridiculous things that people bother emergency services with is beyond belief. I gained a strong understanding from that work that what some people consider an emergency, is a day to day occurence for other people.

Some people have very, very uneventful/risk free lives.

People would phone up to say they’d lost their camera. Not stolen, but lost in the house. They would expect a policeman to turn up to help them look for it.

Not remembering where they parked their car was a good one too.
See also…. Dog has got out, a man looked at me funny, a black man has walked past my house, my son argued with me and then stormed out, I found a traffic cone on my car roof…. and other assorted silliness.

Anyway, to the OP. My son got beaten up in the local park. Not pushed around, but beaten up by a gang of around ten lads. They all took turns punching him. Police response….. We can come round tomorrow….

I take it you have had media training then? It is actually rather hard to do a piece to camera and I’ve seen incredibly bright and capable senior people go to bits when faced with a friendly journo and a camera.

Sounds like you did the right thing, you’ve not reported it as an emergency and the police can decide if they think it’s worth doing anything about or not. Hopefully they decided it was ‘cos drunk youths in a potentially stolen car, who are also intimidating people is probably not going to end well!

Having just spoken to someone who lives down the road they sound to be the same people who live around this road but have been doing some odd things lately and are known to the police anyway so I’m not feeling bad that I did it now, which I did a bit after kevkevs comment:

The Polish (males) love their cars, I’ve had some working for me that drive BMWs, Audis and VWs, so you probably had nothing to be concerned about in that respect.

Fair enough. Was impressed with the police though, they checked round then rang back to check I was ok and say what they did. :). Police in one part of the city have a twitter account and tweet what’s going on locally, anything from random calls like mine, to domestics to fires/accidents. Not 100% sure if its legit but it’s a fab idea.

Lol no I’m not 16, thread title as a bit toungue in cheek as I actually don’t like doing it but a policeman once said to me that if your gut instinct is that something isn’t right right then report it as you’d be amazed how many crimes are solved or supported by someone ringing to say ‘I saw someone acting a bit odd’ etc….
