The cheapest option surely is to get a matching door on the other side! 😀

My mother. Oh god, my mother. She annoys me because every terrible stereotype you’ve heard about women drivers, driving mothers and elderly drivers…

    That rings a bell!

I remember telling my Mother – tactfully – that after four circuits of the hospital car park looking for a “suitable” parking space (i.e. one that was about the size of a tennis court), perhaps it would be a good idea if I parked the car for her. Which I did. With one hand. While making a mental note that the next time I needed a lift to hospital to get a broken arm set in plaster, I’d ask my Dad to take me.

    😆

I facepalmed when my mother spent over £1000 getting her car to pass its most recent MOT. It’s a V reg Peugeot 206 (and, as I’ve mentioned, rather battered). She won’t entertain the idea of a new (or newer) car though. “Better the devil you know”, apparently.

There’s something wrong with that mondeo and it’s not the dent- it looks like your wheels have inexplicably not been eaten by the alloy worms!

Suppose it depends how handy you are, like gu1nt says swapping a door often doesn’t turn out that simple… And even if a new one was mint when it came off the car, it’s quite likely it won’t be any more after storage and shipping.

But personally, mine came covered in dents from the previous owner, and there they can stay. People seem less keen to park close to it for one thing 😆

Leave it as a reminder to her

And anyway, if you fix it and then she needs to use it again…

    This.
You will spend a lot of time, effort and money fixing it and then something else will happen to it and you’ll have to do it again. And again probably.
Fix it when you want to sell the car.
Never understood why people bother mending cosmetic stuff like that, I drive around with far worse.
    .
Anyway, if you must, swapping a door is a doddle, just done three on my Transit (to change from no windows to windows, camper project, not just to get rid of a scratch.) If you have central locking and electric windows at the back get a new one which also does, keeps it even easier, fitting electric windows can be a PITA.

Had something similar with my Octavia. Wor lass out the side down a fence post, ironically on the way to a stop crashing course for the bike. Once placed said it would have to be an insurance job as it needed both doors replacing and quoted £2000. I had it done by my local trusted garage who pulled the doors straight and it was £500.

oh- I’m assuming from the wheels it’s a Ghia or Titanium? So probably got electric windows etc,?

not sure I agree about the mobile repairers not being able to get a good finish on a black car. I do stuff like this five days a week and our company gives a life time guarantee on the work. Cant see why it needs a door unless the impact beam is damaged

My sister in law did something similar years ago collecting their brand new Ford Escort from the dealers.Didn’t realise how sharp power steering was and scraped the full side of the car against a metal bollard exiting the dealership in front of most of the salesman and mechanics ….my brother was totally convinced it was a wind up when she phoned him to break the news and only believed it when the car salesman confirmed the sad truth.

Shouldn’t do… But chucking on a new door or skin might be the cheapest option, if the OP can do the work.

Better half did something similar many years back to her dad’s car in a multi story. And cost £300 ish to fix. She got in the neck for months until he did exactly the same in his own driveway but managed to do £800 worth of damage. So be careful how smug you are in case it comes back to bite you!

Yeah it’s an 07 Mondeo TDCi Ghia X. I am not too fussed about the dents just the fact that there’s bare metal showing through so I don’t want car cancer setting in.

I’m not planning on selling it for a while yet so asthetics aren’t a major concern.

I am fairly handy with a spanner and I reckon I could change the door but I can’t be assed TBH!

You want to know the worst thing – she’s borrowing it again today 😯

I’ve told her to go down to the R’bout a mile down the road to turn around and com in from the other way! in-fact I told her to do that yesterday, but she didn’t listen!!

Won’t you just get a scratch on the other side if she does that…..? 🙂

I hope not as it’s nowhere near as tight of a turn.

Only a metal box on wheels, give her a hug and say just glad you are alright

My wife’s rubbish at slow speed manoeuvring so as she only managed to pass her test with an automatic car it’s useful that I choose to have a manual. I’ve banned her from multi-storey car parks though as that’s just bound to end in tears.

Identical car here (apart from colour), near identical scrape by my son about 3 years ago, absolutely no remedial action taken & no great sign of any rust, marker pen over the worst bits & you will be fine 🙂

If you are worried about rust, just use some primer and topcoat on the wheel arch as he door looks like it needs replacing anyway.

We have all done things like this. In all my years living here I’ve had loads of different vehicles from cars to big vauxhall vans and never bumped anything in the street till a couple of years ago when I was reversing and my ( now ex ) girlfriend said ” oh look, Gemma’s there ” pointing to a neighbour and waving at which point I bashed my next door neighbours Micra.

Embarrassing as I’m a Driving Instructor and have never lived it down since 😳
