Thanks to DezB for sorting this out.

Earlier this summer my sister’s best friend was drowned along with his partner whilst swimming off Crete.

Elizabeth McLaren and Audrey McCallister recorded this violin and viola duet for a memorial service to be held in Melbourne this weekend.

Really lovely. One of my favourite tunes too – although I got into it through The Byrds which is possibly sacrilege!

If I was at a funeral/memorial where that was played, I would be in floods…

    Bookmarked for later.

FWIW, I was at a funeral a couple of years back for an old lady who was my mum’s best friend from school; Eileen’s son is a pianist / accompanist and good friends with sound engineers; Pete Clark from Dunked and his accordionist recorded a duet especially for Eileen’s funeral in Perth. The Skye Boast Song I thought – how twee. 4 minutes later, it finished, all rose to leave (bit quick I thought) tried to get up, really could’t manage. Reduced me to a wreck by the power of music & emotions.

Music and grief. Powerful things in my experience…

I thought it was a very plaintive piece when I listened. Good job I didn’t put some jokey image with it as is my usual wont!

Thought I’d hoovered well enough, but seems I’ve missed a bit of blooming heather that’s got in my eye now.

Lost a biking buddie to the big C this week, a real sporty outdoor guy, he would have really enjoyed that…

I attended a funeral in Orkney of a friend who died in his thirties on Hogmanay. The funeral itself was held on a cold, wet windy early January afternoon where daylight hours are short.

They played Peter Maxwell Davies ‘Farewell to Stromness’. Its a piece of music that never really resonated with me until that funeral. Everyone was in tears.

Beautiful and very tranquil at the same time.
