If I 'had' to buy a new car, then it would be a Hyundai, see if you can get them to throw in a few years free servicing too, as I've seen them offering that before, then there's nowt much to pay apart from Tyres and small consumables.

My "history" includes 2CV and Moris Ital, I have no shame.
Mrs Wally and sproglet will be using it.

    The missus has a Getz
The customer service is first rate – she's taken it back a couple of times for warranty jobs & they've never argued or questioned her at all.

Best test drive I've ever had was from a Hyundai Garage, we went down to try a Hyundai Trajet (have a big family) and even though we didn't end up buying the car, the reception of the garage and the service they provided was first class. The Kia we ended up with has been ok but the local dealer we bought it from has been atrocious!

I have a new i20 which is the next one up. cant fault it; scrapped my old car to get the discount and I'm glad I did. drives great, can easily get 45mpg just driving around town and the dealer was excellent (not that I've been back since I got it).
    go for it!

see the i20 is an ideal car for me missus but having had a 00 lantra in the family since new its been a bag of utter shite …maintained by the dealer at all costs for first 5 years , then done by our local garage after that

Suspension and wheel/tires were replaced under warrenty to cure a vibration at 70 from near new….

ECU and fuel pump died at 42,000 miles

Its not comfy , its interior is squeeky and rattly , eg the rear view mirror has a really bad metallic vibration that we cant seem to cure despite trying various methods.

its on 72,250 miles now , electrics are shagged – the lights when on full beam cut out for split seconds now and again the dash board lights go out occasionally and the passengers window is dying.

its fit for the scrappys and thats where its going , once bitten twice shy – my previous fiesta did 180 000 miles before secumbing to rust , my escort did 100000 before i sold it for this car on the premise that being a 42,000 mile car and a full service history as well as being driven by my parents for years would be a better more reliable car , had it for 2 weeks and the ecu and fuel pump died – cost of parts because it was a hyundai only part ….400 quid

yeah but that was a Lantra, the new ones have such good (compared to others) extended warranties that financially at least they're worth serious consideration, the only problem being resale value & you have to keep it serviced at the main dealers to keep the extended warranty i think.

Will be fine as a cheap runabout. Just watch the seats: they're rock hard!

As for the whole "Hyundai" thing, TBH with the i10, i20 and above all, the i30, they've moved their game onto the point where they're as good – and in some areas, better – than everything else in the same segment. Good cars, and the dealer backup/warranty makes buying one a sensible move.

As an aside, if anyone here has an '09 or early '59 plate i10, i20, i30 or iLoad, there's a fair chance it was I who inspected it as it came off the boat 😀

Mrs. S has a 58 i10 and absolutely adores it.

TBH – I like driving it too. The quality and equipment level, for the price, is outstanding. Dead reliable and easy to park etc.. Cheap as secondhand chips to run too.

my mum just got an auto one about 3 weeks ago and loves it.
I have taken it for a spin and its better than I expected it to be.

Dont expect to get one soon though Hyundai stock is a lot like on-ones – ie constantly on the boat from the far east.
