The older Wombat Jr would like to make a gravity cart over the Easter holidays and we’ve decided that rather than making a full space frame (don’t really have the room, budget, or skill) a couple of steel bike frames (possibly BMX) would be a good starting point, partly so she can practice welding.

As being able to stop is always handy I was toying with the idea of fitting the cart with disc brakes but want to be able to operate the brakes on both the rear (and front) wheels with single levers.

Are brake hose T pieces available that would be suitable for this purpose?

Would have thought there would be something suitable around. However you would alter the fluid ratio from lever to calliper so could find that the brakes don’t work as you would expect.

If you doing a single axle why not only have a single rear brake (perhaps with a big disc). Carts use this arrangement and stop you fine. Or cable brakes as it should be easier to split the cable to 2 end points.

A search on here or google for one handed braking solutions will give some examples where people have done this.

    (there’#s others)

Good point on the fluid ration, hadn’t thought of that.
Wasn’t intending on having a rear axle, was going for independent rear wheels (with no suspension) so we can use standard bike wheels if at all possible.

Thanks for the link, will have a read.
Cable/V brakes is an option, will investigate
