    Agreed.

but it's not just worry and apprehension

Agreed, some people have a complete irrational fear.

Actually I didn't mean fear, just annoyance! I'm not scared of dogs but I do get fed up with them making a pain in the a$$ of themselves when I'm just trying to go about my business, and IMO the owners should be making sure that they don't.

If it won't come to call every time then it should be on a lead

It will come back more often than my young kids when I call them. Which do I muzzle and put on a lead I am so confused now.

Its ok as long as they don't get too close, then if they do a warning kick in the face is perfectly acceptable apparently.

You don't wonder, you've googled it and come up positive.

I'm all for dogs on the beach so long as they're not trouncing through your picnic, dropping eggs for you to stand on barefoot or chasing my kites and peeing on them. Dogs seem to love the beach.

So you're saying that you would let your kids do these things? If not the analogy you're trying to make is a bit spurious isn't it?

  17. hainey - Member

I don't have kids, and if i did i would make sure they are under control at all times, this means that once called they return to me 100% of the time otherwise i think they should be on a lead and probably muzzled.

You and your precious kids should be more considerate of others, i keep hearing the same old boring, "oh they don't usually do that". Truth is if you can't control them 100% of the time then keep them on a lead.

Good grief - are you people still at this?

I've been out, walked my two dogs (off the lead, mostly under control I think - although you never really know do you), had lunch with a student who's on placement with me, met their tutor, walked the dog again and come in for tea.

Are you lot all on benefits - or even worse, immigrants?

DeVs - nice pics but have you got vaseline on the lens or something - there's a few blurry bits. Was one of those out of control dogs licking your lens?

Pics from my sis's camera which had just survived a hen night in Aviemore complete with hot tub at the lodge so I suspect steam or something has got in.
licking the lens like this you mean?

wen my whippet was tiny ,he saw his father dog being ravished by a big dog.... (the father) had to have 17 stitches...so the youngest whippet has always been terrified of other dogs... hes always screaming wen other dogs try to get near him... not all dogs are friendly.... so my dog isnt sociable at all with any dog... its just the way hes grown up to be scared of other dogs ?
maybe i need Ceaser Millan drafted in from America...

*chewkw to the thread please, chewkw to the thread*

I heard echo of someone calling me ...

Bloody hell ... it just two big dogs FFS! Stand you ground unless they are "killer" dogs in that case ... scream like Nancy boy.

It's not the dogs' fault it's the owner and the best thing to do is throw some dog turd at the owner. That will learn her.

What pisses me off big time is this ... Some govt cowards did this to a dog. Call me whatever you want but I would like to treat those cowards to Henry VIII style "hospitality".

    elaine,
you should have been much clearer in your op, at no point did you mention the dog was growling or being aggressive. I sympathise with your situation and as before I can only recommend you persevere with socialisation. Meet up with friendly dogs you are comfortable with and let nature take it's course. Your dog may be frightened at first, but you have to let go or your own anxiety will transfer to your pooch. Over time your dog will realise she is not in constant danger, otherwise you are both doomed to walking in dog free zones, which is almost impossible.

I am now a dog lover, although I used to be afraid of them. My dog is not allowed to approach dogless people, not that she bothers to, but she is allowed to approach other off lead dogs.

    Hehehe! You found somewhere then.

I gave up lure coursing Ted, he was very keen and all that, but if he got ahead of the other dog he'd just barge it to a stop and start a bit of a scuffle halfway up the course.

I just go to take pics now.

That sounds great elaine, I hope it works out well. One of the things that I really enjoy about my dog is seeing her play and interact with all her chums. She has a group of five that she meets on her morning walk, they all meet up and play for half an hour, it is so good for them.
