    So just how much is too much?

    The Hope vid shows the guy nipping it up then backing off then nipping up again?

    Should there be even the slightest side to side play in the cranks with the 5mm bolts tightened up?

    As loose as you can really with no play. The Hope method is to ensure that everything's seated first then back off to remove excess preload and do it up finger tight (eg not very tight at all).

    There should be no play but only just.
