A mate is looking for a new bike but in the budget & level he's looking at it's not really worth looking at new bikes. Anyway a nice looking scott scale has come up for sale locally. Thing is he's pretty hard on his gear & he's doubting whether the frame will be strong enough as it's carbon fibre. So i reckon it'd probably be fine but i thought i'd ask on here to see if anyone has had any problems with one? Are they any good for the harder riding folks amongst us?

seen a couple of broken ones – one round the bb – just general use. the other the intergrated seatmast broke off.

both by a mate who is similarly hard on gear.

personally I'd only use one for racing. Thats what they're made for. XC races generally don't have excessive drop offs and jumps etc, so I'd be reluctant to really hammer one on a regular basis
