Make and model of laptop? Version of Windows? What ‘system problem’? What makes you sure that’s the “only” way? Have you got any important data that’s not backed up?

    Throw us a bone here.

Right. Have you got a Vista disc, or a recovery CD?

 having seen some of James posts previously, this is just classic James…
    .
    .
James you either have some DVD/CD disc with the laptop or not… ask the purchaser (your parents) of the laptop?
    .
    .
As Cougar asks, what make of laptop (Dell, acer, sony,) is it? As some manufacturers (such as Dell) include the rescue media installed on the hard drive of the machine, not on seperate disc’s.
If you tell us what make it is, some-one may have experience of this & tell you how to fix it….

Make and Model- Acer 5735 Aspire
All data is backed up on external harddrive, and i have 12 virus’s that avg cant handle and every time i open a program a little box opens saying it needs vendor or administrator is not working etc. My mates had problems and took it pc world and they reset it and it was all fine.

    From this page: http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f108/laptop-recovery-instructions-162525.html

Here is the standard Acer Recovery Instructions

    1. Power on the machine
    2. At the white ACER BIOS screen, hold the “Alt” key and press the “F10” key simultaneously to start Acer eRecovery
    3. Once eRecovery has loaded, click “Restore to Factory Default Settings”
    4. Click “OK” to continue
    5. From here, the eRecovery process will update all the data on the C: drive and restore a fully functional factory image (approximately 10 minutes).
    6. Once eRecovery has run, press “OK” to reboot unit

Disconnect your external hdd while you try this! It may or may not work, but is defnitely worth a try before wasting cash taking it to pc world.

    Oh yeah,

I’d scan your external disk as soon as you’re able, too.

if it works actually that doesn’t matter, just read this thread:

    http://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/hello-stw-can-anyone-give-me-any-advice-on-computer-security

and install Microsoft MSI (it’s free!)

Could start by trying some virus removal, download the rescue disk in link below and burn to a cd/dvd, boot to it, update and let it do a full virus scan.

    Kaspersky Rescuedisk

Used in the past with some success, cleaned enough to let me back into a system through safe mode, backup the files and rebuild.
