I was just wondering how often you should change spd cleats.

I’ve been using my current set since 2009 and they are starting to feel a bit loose when you pull up on the pedals ?

when they stopping working correctly, they start pulling out of the pedal in my case, which is normally (for my time’s) numerous years, sounds like your at that point. Good luck trying to get the old cleats off 😉

With Times about once a year usually but the cleats are made of cheese. And yes getting them out usually involves drilling the screw heads very carefully.

If they are crank brothers, once every 4-6 rides.

If they are Shimano, once every 4-6 years! 😀

When I get new shoes, so probably about 18 months to 2 years. And just get a new pair of cheap SPD pedals rather than buying the cleats separately.

With Times, when you feel them getting slack. They are made of cheesy brass, true, but the cleats wear rather than the pedal springs. Don’t forget to grease the screws.

I’m still running CB cleats that are several years old.

I replace mine when they easily pull out of the pedals which is about every 18-24 months depending on the mileage you do. Mine are shimano cleats.
