July has been the first complete month that our in-house cycle to work scheme has been operating and the majority of those who have taken part have been keeping a log of the number of miles covered. Rather astonishingly between us have covered 1000 miles. Not a massive figure, but for 8 of us, some of whom hadn’t ridden a bike in the last 25 years until 5 weeks ago, we’re quite pleased.
1000 miles
At 20 mph* average speed = 50 hours sat in a car
At 14p* per mile fuel = £140
In distance = Manchester to Slovenia
*please don’t argue with the figures, I’ve made them up and that is not the point of the thread
So, today - July 29th - how many miles will the Singletrack massive have done just commuting (not interested in “playing out” miles) to work on their bikes? I’ll tot up the figures this afternoon and equate it to a distance and a cost saving.
I’ll start.
12 miles.
