  • How early to start trimming a hedge?

It’s 6am, I can’t sleep, and I need to trim an unruly hedge.

What’s the earliest I can do it without being a dick to my neighbour?

    Electric trimmer btw.

    Mine. I wouldn’t rub another man’s rhubarb.

….and its more an overgrown fence really. Back fence has ivy and other bushes against it, and they’ve grown over it and spilling out into the street the other side.

    Bike broken?

    Don’t be silly, I don’t have a bike.

…but I do love the fact that STW’ers are unable to do any other non-work activity other than cycling.

8am midweek, unless your neighbour is on nights or a psycho

    9am saturday

10am Sunday, unless you’re from the bible states of the US in which case not until church has finished.

(I genuinely got told off for going on the beach in NJ on a sunday before church had finished)

Check for birds’ nests, trim in September if you find any. Never do what you can put off until September

I was thinking 9ish. It’s just annoying I could have it done, get showered and be ready to do naff all for the rest of the day by 8am if I was a bit more inconsiderate.

    Edit:

Oh, good point. Not sure there is room for them to be in there, but will have a look first. Don’t really fancy a chick massacre on my hand.

Pretty sure I scared a blackbird away from her nest, hedgetrimming last year, very sad. 🙁

Your neighbour already thinks you’re a dick anyway. Might as well crack on.

    8am on a Saturday, 10 on a Sunday.

Here in Austria 7am Monday to Saturday is ok, but if you make any noise with electric/ petrol gardening tools on Sundays or bank holidays you risk getting a nice letter from the police!

Quarter past is apparantly fine round here to have Crowded House on really loud in the garden.

I don’t think any time is really appropriate for crowded house.

As early as you like with hedge shears, 9am for anything noisier

    Ow ow ow.

The bastard thing is full of this stuff.

Looks like an hour with the secateurs could have been viable.

Ok. I found a nest. Of spiders.

This lot is full of thorns and spiders. I regret everything.

…and now rain has stopped play.

Knew I should have started earlier.

    Agreed.

You should set fire to the hedge. Those spiders are creeping me out.
A gallon of petrol should overcome any rain related dampness issues…..
