  • how do you know when your shock needs a service?

    just wondering really, mine appears to running fine, but its a second hand bike and i dont really know what the symptoms of a tired shock are.

    any one care to enlighten me?

    Old oil can cause shocks to start spiking or not feel smooth. Also new noises like whooshing (some shocks woosh anyway) or air moving can indicate the oil has cavitation (bubbles in the oil).

    Is it an air shock?

    If so losing air, rebound not responding, stuff like that, if those are fine, then just do a simple air can sevice yourself done regularly it will prolong the shocks life by a massive margin…

    yeah might do that tinsy, its performing fine at the moment, no noises or spiking and all the compression/propedal etc its working spot on.

    What does a can service involve? Do you need any special tools?

    Can service involves 0 tools (may need a vice to remove wide bushes, or a pick if changing seals). Oil change needs a big spanner/adjustable and a few allen keys.
