  • How can I fix this?

My kids have trashed my car. But this is the one thing that has annoyed me the most. They have knackered the centre armrest. Separating the top section from the bottom. All I want is to be able attach top and bottom sections again. I can’t glue it as I’ve tried already. Can’t screw it anywhere. How can I get the top bit to stick on to the bottom?

    Sikaflex would probably stick it

^^^ a tube of that would do it.

A ground up paste of children’s blood, teeth and hair should do it.

Or more glue. Sand/clean all the surfaces you are going to apply glue to.

Other than that is going to be new parts.

There’s a whole bunch of holes for screws. Why can you screw it, even if it takes some bodging?

Yeah, superglue won’t work brcase it’s not able to fill gaps.

Looks to me that with a bit of careful manoeuvring it will just clip back into the metal clip.

Failing that, any kind of all weather sealant.

Also looks to me like it clips back on.

Looks to me like it should clip back on apart from the section that’s smashed to ****. Can you get a replacement armrest? (Scrapyard?)

I’d go for something like black bathroom sealant. Used it round the cleats of an SPD shoe for extra water proofing before now. Sticks well but if you need to get the cover off it should give way easily enough.

Everything is brittle plastic clips on older Fords. If price is right, probably better off replacing the who unit like Cougar/Weeksy suggest.

    Buy a new car.

    Job done.

WTF? I’d go apeshit at my kids if they did that. Didn’t other adults in the car think to stop them??
It looks like the bit just slides forward to remove, so is an easy job to swap over with one from a scrappie or e-bay.

Put the kids on car wash duty for the next six months. That’ll learn them.

They’ll give it a careful and conscientious scrubbing with a half brick, going by the precedent.
