  • How buckled does a wheel need to be before it's worth getting it trued?

My rear wheel has got a wobble in it that’s probably between 5 and 10mm. Worth getting fixed or just forget about it?

It’ll be easier to fix now. 10mm is a lot IMO

at 10mm I’d be worried it was beyond saving…

Right then looks like I’d better get it trued in that case 🙂

I get the spoke key out at 1mm. Do it now, as long as the rim isn’t knackered elsewhere.

The further out of true a rim is, the further out of balance the spoke tensions will be. This is what makes the wheel weaker. It’s best to get that run as close to straight as possible without spoke tension.

Personally I’d loosen everything off, get the rim in a soft jawed vice and heave it as close to straight as possible before re-tensioning it. At 5mm deflection Is probably risk just pulling it straight unless I had time on my hands.
