Need a bit of inspiration here…

We are about to do a loft conversion/rear extension to our bungalow.
The deal we have with the builder involves us buying a lot of the ‘second fix’ stuff and giving to him for fitment (fairly standard arrangement I think)
Ideally i’d like to use down-lighters in the rear extension, but building regs say we are not allowed to pierce the 150mm of Celotex we have going into the roof.
So it looks like we will have to go with surface mounted lights… trouble is I’ve not seen anything I like – any suggestions of where to look?
low energy (LED) is vital, and preferably something fairly modern.

I also need to buy two bathroom suites – any ideas on where to look for them?

    Cheers,

    Matt.

Friend of mine is in the trade, so we bought all our lighting from him. He’s very knowledgeable if you want to give him a call?

Take a look at Aurora or Collingwood lights – both highly recommended by our builder and have some unusual (in a good way!) designs.

We sourced all ours from a local place (Beelex in St Albans).

In which case, get the wiring put in place but don’t fit the lights. Once the whole thing has been signed off by BC, you can just cut the holes and retro-fit them afterwards. 95% of the non-structural Building regs stuff is just overkill and they endlessly ban stuff which was fine the previous year, so no one will notice or care when you come to sell the place.

Try ‘nationallighting.co.uk they do commercial & residential fittings at very competative prices. Some good architectural design I have specified them for projects and my own personal use.

We have essentially downlighters in really small brushed stainless boxes on the roof. They look pretty bloody awesome actually and were done that way for the very same reason. Like this but not dark http://img.tootoo.com/mytootoo/upload/aligold/69/60/69601a9e024f927748bc7446f5dada01.jpg

    Ours have LED’s in them

Thanks for the replies. The LED down lights that National lighting have look promising. Only need a 12mm deep hole.
